New music: Azari & III ? Manic

Here's a thought experiment, involving Prince impressions ...

Have you ever wondered what Prince would sound like if he on DFA Records? Yes? Well, wonder no more. Azari & III are a four-piece from Toronto whose new single Manic is built around a looped sample of singers Cedric and Fritz doing their best Prince impressions over an expanding house track. Lyrically, the song is about how, you know, it's a pretty manic world and some people aren't who you think they are, but all that's lost among the pitter-patter beats, synth washes and processed hi-hats.

For the video, Cedric and Fritz strike enough poses to put an episode of America's Next Top Model to shame, while the shadowy figures of producers Dinamo Azari and Alixander III appear fleetingly, usually hidden behind oversized sunglasses.

? Manic is taken from Azari & III's debut album, released on 8 August
