Cerebral and sunny, this is a thinking person's summer anthem
When Baltimore trio Future Islands started working on their third album, On the Water, their influences ranged from Fleetwood Mac and Cocteau Twins to a book about Brian Eno's Another Green World. This mix of the melodic and the cerebral sums up Balance, the album's second single, which dances around an undulating bass line, a gorgeously clipped beat and Samuel T Herring's slightly coarse vocals to create a summer anthem at the exact moment when everyone's given up on summer.
