Man charged over false assault claims against Louis Walsh

24-year-old admitted allegations against pop mogul were made up as Walsh threatens legal action against the Sun

A man has appeared in court charged with falsely accusing the pop impresario Louis Walsh of indecent assault. Leonard Watters, 24, faced the charges at Dublin's district court after admitting he made up claims he was assaulted in a nightclub. It was also confirmed that the Garda Sochna were no longer investigating allegations against Walsh. Watters was granted bail on condition that he doesn't contact Walsh or any member of the boyband Westlife, which the X Factor judge founded. The court heard that the allegation was made by Watters on 20 June at the Garda Station on Harcourt Terrace. Watters, who is from Navan, was charged under section 12 of the Irish Republic's Criminal Law Act. He told Garda he had no fixed abode, but the judge listed the necessity to provide an address as one of his bail conditions. Walsh said he intends to "vigorously pursue" legal action against the Sun, which first reported the allegations. He added that he won't rest until he receives "total and absolute vindication".
