He will also be required to attend domestic violence and mental health counselling over a 12-month period.
Gibson was charged yesterday with "wilful and unlawful use of force and violence upon the person of Oksana G", after Grigorieva claimed he punched her in the mouth last year.
According to the Daily Mail, prosecutors offered the plea deal in order to protect Oksana and a "minor witness" who was due to testify in the case.
Mel's lawyer Blair Berk said: "Mel's priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made.
"It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end."
Gibson will complete his community service at the Mending Children International charity.
