The Chelsea and England soccer star, 30, is claimed by The Sun to have told a friend that he believes he will be reunited with X Factor judge Cheryl, 27.
The paper quoted a source as saying that Ashley told him: "Cheryl loves Dubai and I'm investing heavily there because of it. We love each other and we will be together again.
And the source is claimed to have commented: "He truly believes the divorce is temporary. When he retires he sees them moving away. He says the only reason they split was because she had to be seen to act after his affairs."
That couldn't be true though, could it? Not with Cheryl's red-hot romance with dancing Derek Hough happening in between... oh, right.
Chezza may need a shoulder to cry on right now after her brother was sent to prison last week. Some might say Ashley is lucky not to be in court himself.

Married Too Young
How young was she?
The eldest Geldof sprog was just 19 when she tied the knot with musician Max Drummey after a whirlwind four-week romance in 2008.
How long did it last?
They split up just six months later, parting amicably and by mutual consent.
Was it a shock?
Well, she'd already said in an interview that she didn't see her marriage lasting "forever", so it was definitely on the cards.
Has she learned from it?
It's hard to tell with Peaches, but we think so. She's been smitten with current beau Tom Cohen and there's no hint of wedding bells yet anyway.
How young was she?
Britters was 22 when she tied the knot with dancer Kevin Federline in September 2004 - and she had already had a spur-of-the moment marriage to a childhood pal annulled at the start of the same year.
How long did it last?
She managed just over two days the first time, but Britney's marriage to K-Fed lasted almost two years.
Was it a shock?
Not really, the couple had been under intense scrutiny and he had been labelled a feckless layabout by the media - so nobody was surprised when they threw in the towel.
Has she learned from it?
Well, she hasn't got married since - despite a string of unsuitable suitors and a major-league meltdown - so we'll take that as a "yes".
How young was she?
Kerry was 20 when she left Atomic Kitten and tied the knot with Westlife star Brian McFadden back in 2002.
How long did it last?
Two-and-a-bit years. They announced their separation in September 2004, but the divorce wasn't finalised until December 2006.
Was it a shock?
They'd had two kids together and were one of Britain's hottest showbiz couples, so it did come as a bit of a surprise when they called it a day.
Did she learn from it?
Not judging by her disaterous and drug-addled marriage to Mark Croft, no.
How young was she?
Our favourite X Factor judge might look about 13 in this photo, but she was 22 when she tied the knot with Julian McMahon bacvk in 1994.
How long did it last?
The marriage lasted less than two years and they were divorced in 1995, with Dannii having racked up big debts from supporting the pair of them while living in LA and Australia.
Has she learned from it?
Maybe too well. Anyone else would have marched Kris Smith down the aisle a long time ago!
How young was she?
Kate was 21 and Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson was 34 when they tied the knot in 2001 - having moved in together JUST FOUR DAYS after they met.
How long did it last?
They gave it a pretty good go, with Robinson filing for divorce due to "irreconcilable differences" almost six years, and one child, later.
Has she learned from it?
Looks like it, because at the time of writing she was pregnant with Muse star Matt Bellamy's baby but there was still no tinkle of wedding bells. We wouldn't rule it out though.
How young was she?
Kim was just 19 when she eloped to Las Vegas and married music producer Damon Thomas - who was 10 years her senior.
How long did it last?
They split up three years later, with Kim claiming that he had repeatedly beaten her up and demanded to know where she was at every hour of the day.
Has she learned from it?
It certainly appears so, because she's now in her thirties, still single and seems really well adjusted by celeb standards.
How young was she?
Troubled singer Amy was 23 when she and Blake Fielder-Civil got hitched back in 2007.
How long did it last?
Until the drugs stopped working basically, so a bit less than two years - by which time he was in jail and she was in rehab.
Has she learned from it?
Sadly, we wouldn't bet against seeing them get back together - but Amy certainly seems to be off the crack and smack now so at least that's something.
How young was she?
Ange was just 21 and a bit of a live wire when she married young British actor Jomnny Lee Miller in 1996 - dressed in black rubber trousers and with his name written in blood on her white short. No craziness there then!
How long did it last?
They were together for 18 months - and she later said they'd probably have stayed together if they had been older.
Did she learn from it?
Erm, not really. As you are about to find out...
How young this time?
Just a year or so after splitting from Jonny, Ange was getting married to co-star Bily Bob Thornton at the age of 24 - and this time the blood was in phials around their necks.
How long did it last?
They separated two years later, with Angelina later explaining that "one day we had just nothing in common".
Was it a shock?
It was a bit sudden yes, and Ange admitted that it even shocked her as well.
So did she learn from it this time?
Apparently so, because soon afterwards a certain Mr Pitt came on the scene and she's lived happily ever after without getting married again... so far.
How young was she?
Jessica was 22 when she and long-term boyfriend Nick Lachey tied the knot in 2002 - becoming the subject of a hugely popular reality TV show called The Newlyweds.
How long did it last?
Despite denying there werre any problems, they announced their divorce suddenly in 2006 - with rumours flying about bachelor parties and jealousy.
Did she learn from it?
Well she hasn't got hitched again, but her judgement in men didn't get a lot better because her next serious relationship was with singing plonker John Mayer - who told the world she was "sexual napalm".
