Was there a hilarious mix-up caused by a somebody mishearing a request for an "anchor", or is he now a bona fide movie star following his bit part in that dodgy flick a year or so ago?
The answer to both these questions is of course "no", because he's just the latest celeb with only a tenuous link to the movie industry to rock up at the French luvvie-thon in search of a bit of publicity.
And it looked like he'd forgotten all about Chantelle Houghton, who he'd apparently been snogging a few days previously - because he seemed to be putting the moves on some lovely ladies.
OK, if you want the truth Alex was really there to promote his next, as yet untitled film - and the only thing we know about it is that it co-stars Dexter Fletcher.
Please God let it be a "reboot" of Press Gang.
