According to the Mirror, Adam Cottrell was questioned by police and charged with two counts of assault and two of criminal damage.
The paper reports that Cassidy and Cottrell became involved in a violent row in which 31-year-old Adam went "beserk", smashing up furniture at their home on Sunday night.
After the fight, Cottrell reportedly fled the property but was later arrested when the EastEnders actress called police.
Herfordshire police confirmed: "We were called on Sunday around 5.30pm. Adam Cottrell has been charged with two counts of assault by beating and two counts of criminal damage."
Natalie met Cottrell in 2009 and the following year the pair announced that they were expecting their first child.
Her pregnancy was documented in a Channel 4 reality show, Natalie Cassidy: Becoming Mum, and Adam featured heavily throughout the series.
A source close to Natalie told The Mirror: "Natalie is absolutely devastated by events. She and Adam had a huge argument and it spiralled massively out of control, ending with Adam losing his temper like never before. It turned physical.
The friend added: "Her main concern is the welfare of her daughter and, for now, she just wants to keep a low profile and get on with her life until this has all be resolved.
"She doesn't know what the future holds for herself and Adam."
Cottrell is due to appear at East Herts Magistrates Court on May 31.
