The Canadian pop moppet is claimed to have been blocked from talking to Ri-Ri by her security staff backstage at the event, leaving him crestfallen.
The Mirror quoted a source as saying: "The pair were chatting as Justin's girlfriend Selena [Gomez] looked on scowling, then Rihanna got dragged away by a couple of her friends.
"The pair resumed their chat later but when Justin went to talk to her at the show's climax her security blocked his path, telling him to 'leave it'. Justin looked mortified - he thought they were buddies."
We don't know whether to believe it or not, but they say a picture tells a thousand words - and here's one of them watching a basketball game together a while ago!
